After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in 1985, Chef Kiernan began her career with Gilcorp Restaurant Group in the greater Boston area. From there, Chef Kiernan decided to further her education at Florida International University in Miami where she attained a BS in Hospitality Management. Upon graduation in 1988, Chef Kiernan resettled in the Boston area and began a career in corporate foodservice and catering. 1991 brought Chef Kiernan home to central New York where she and her chef husband, Tom, opened a café and catering business in Cortland. During this time, Chef Kiernan experienced many facets of business ownership and contract food service; ranging from elderly care to college foodservice to International Peace camp. In 2000, Chef Kiernan embraced the opportunity to work in catering at the Carrier Dome, Syracuse University. In 2007 Chef Kiernan returned to CIA to an immersion course where she achieved Pro Chef II as well as CCC certification. Fall 2007, she became an instructor in the department of Hospitality Management where she teaches Restaurant Operations. Other accomplishments include Certified Hospitality Educator (2009), ACF Chef Professionalism (2009) and ACF Aspiring Chef (2008). Chef Kiernan currently serves as Vice-President of the ACF chapter and Certification Chair. She also co-chairs for the Skills USA Culinary Salon. |
